What is Heat Transfer Vinyl?

Heat transfer vinyl, sometimes called t-shirt vinyl, is a special material that is affixed to cloth and other surfaces by a process involving heat and pressure. Heat transfer vinyl can be used to affix designs and lettering on garments, such as t-shirts, as well as on other items. Professional-grade heat presses are typically used to affix the vinyl, but an ordinary iron works for small scale applications. The vinyl can be cut using specialized equipment, such as a vinyl cutter, allowing for an almost unlimited range of design possibilities. Specialty heat transfer vinyls, such as metallic, flock and glow-in-the-dark are popular and attractive materials used in the heat transfer press industry.
