What is Dye Sublimation?

Dye sublimation is a process used to print color images on a variety of substrates; coffee mugs, mousepads, ceramic tile, glass, hardboard and many other materials. Essentially, heat is used to vaporize a solid dye material, which then solidifies upon the substrate. This process is made possible by utilizing specialized print cartridges containing sublimation dyes printingimages onto special dye sub papers. The images can then be permanently heat transferred to T-shirts, hats, mugs, metals, puzzles and other surfaces. Using heat, the vaporized colors permeate the surfaceof the substrate material, creating a gentle gradation at the edges of each pixel. Because the color infuses the surface, it is less vulnerable to fading and distortion over time.
